→ Caption text is brief description, heading, or title that identifier or introduces a document, graphic, photograph, or table.

Caption text used to give further information related to a picture or simply just to decorate it to look better.

1. Cutline

This caption mentions about who are the subjects in the picture or photos and what activity they do.

2. Identification bar

The caption only mentions about subject in the picture

Ex : “Indonesian badminton player wins gold medal in 2021 Olympics.”

“Apple founder Steve Jobs in his famous black turtleneck.”

“Hollywood actress Robert Downey jr poses in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.”

3. Summary

Full explanation about subject, activity, time detail, location detail and why it’s happened.

Ex : “This aerial picture shows the graves of victims of the COVID-19 coronavirus at the Okunoin cemetery in Japan on August 7, 2021.”

“A Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officer watches over the morning exercises for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients isolating at the Wisma Atlet in Kemayoran, Center Jakarta, on Sep. 4, 2020. 4. Expanded

Longer version of summary caption. This also include how the event occurred.

Ex: British journalist Martin Bashir arrives at Santa Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Maria to be the first witness to be called at Michael Jackson’s child sex abuse trial. The BBC was under pressure on May 21, 2021, after unprecedented criticism from the royal family about its 1995 interview with princess Diana, damaging its reputation as it fights attacks on several fronts. 5. Quote

Consist of someone’s word which has been quoted related to the picture or photos.

Prepositional phrases is a series of word made up of a preposition and its object.

-The boy with him is his son

( with is the preposition, and with him s the prepositional phrase. The prepositional phrase functions as an adjective phrase, modifying boy)

- It annoys me when talk during movies.

(during is the preposition and during movies is the prepositional phrase. The prepositional phrase function as an adverb phrase modifying talk )

Infinitive phrases is the infinitive form of a verb plus any complements (direct object) and modifiers

(adverb)

- To dance is thrilling for me.

(to dance is the invinitive. It function as a noun in the

sentence, acting as a subject)

- cory wants to sing.

(to sing is the invinitive. It function as a noun in the

sentence, acting as a direct object)

Participial phrases Is dressed up like verbs, but they

function as adjective to describe nouns.

- Sweeping across the night sky, the bats hunted their prey.

(sweeping is the present participle, and sweeping

across the night sky is the participial phrase. The

participial phrase modifies bats)

- The broken window needed to get repaired quickly.

(broken is the past participle. It modifies window)

Adjective phrases Is a group of words

that describe a noun or pronoun in a sentence.

- The movie was not too terribly long.

- A person smarter than me needs to

figure this out.
